    Healthy Relationships: Consent & Coercion

    This workshop empowers participants with the skills to communicate about consent, examine situations where consent is violated, identify and respond to different types of peer pressure, and identify people in their lives who can offer help if they find themselves in a difficult situation. 

    ​By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Define consent and recognize different forms of coercion.

    • Understand their own boundaries and how to respect the boundaries of others.

    • Confidently express their boundaries and accept rejection graciously.

    • Respond to challenging situations and identify safe adults in their lives who can help

    Syllabus:

    • Importance of healthy relationships, especially with friends 

    • Tips to avoid peer pressure

    • Laws around consent/Know your rights

    • Defining sexual harassment/abuse

    • Consent in pop culture

    •  What to do in challenging situations

    • Saying no and accepting rejection

    • Healthy relationships conclusion

    Relationship Safety: Red and Green Flags

    This workshop helps students clearly recognize red flags in unhealthy relationships and green flags in healthy ones. Through real-life examples, including from media and pop culture, students will learn how to spot warning signs, understand what safe and respectful relationships look like, challenge the norms, and know when to ask for help.

    By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

     

    • Recognize common red flags and warning signs of abuse and unhealthy relationship dynamics.

    • Understand the green flag behaviors that promote healthy relationships with ourselves and with others.

    • Reflect on their own boundaries and understand how to communicate and protect them.

    • Challenge common myths about relationships and abuse.

    Sexual Health: Contraceptives & STIs

    Participants will explore the basics of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), how they are spread, and how to prevent them. The session will also cover different methods of birth control, including hormonal and non-hormonal options, emergency contraception, and the role of consent in sexual decision-making. Through discussion and reflection, students will gain tools to make informed, responsible choices about their sexual health. 

    By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

     

    • Understand the basics of sexually transmitted infections, how to prevent them, and when to seek help

    • Identify the options available for sexual health and protection including vaccines, condoms, PrEP, and other birth control options, including hormonal, non-hormonal, and emergency contraception, and abortion

    • Understand the importance of consent in all sexual health decisions

    • Gain awareness of fertility and pregnancy prevention strategies

    • When to seek medical attention 

    • Preventing STIs: Vaccines, Prep, and contraceptives

    • Birth Control: hormonal methods, non hormonal methods

    You Belong: LGBTQIA+ Inclusion

    This workshop helps students build a shared understanding of inclusive language and the impact of the gender binary. Participants will learn how to support LGBTQIA+ peers, challenge harmful norms, and take everyday actions to create safer, more welcoming environments.

    By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

     

    • Use inclusive and affirming language when talking about gender and sexuality.

    • Handle mistakes or unfamiliar situations with empathy, curiosity, and respect.

    • Recognize how strict gender rules can hurt people and feel empowered to challenge those norms in everyday life.

    • Take small actions to support LGBTQIA+ inclusion in their schools, friend groups, and communities.

    • Prevention education and strategic framework to change the narrative

    • Combating health inequities caused by the chronic stress of societal stigma and discrimination

    • The gender binary and American culture

    • Impact of shame/purity culture on laws, culture, and mental health

    Body Image & Self Love in a Media World

    This workshop examines the societal messages that shape the way we see our bodies. Students will learn how society, capitalism, and diet culture promote unrealistic beauty standards—and how those messages can lead to harmful beliefs, body shame, and even eating disorders. Students will build media literacy skills, challenge harmful norms, and practice affirming and respecting their own bodies and the bodies of others.​

    By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

     

    • Understand how outside influences shape body image, self-perception, and ideas of health

    • Challenge both societal and personal assumptions about bodies

    • Affirm their own bodies and recognize the importance of body respect and acceptance

    Syllabus: 

     

    • Recognizing how the media portrays bodies and sexuality and reflection on how that differs from our own individual expressions and values

    • Real or unreal? Distinguish between real life and life portrayed by media

    • Explore how capitalism and diet culture profit from body insecurity

    • Identify how body standards differ across cultures and time periods

    • Discuss how body image impacts mental, emotional, and sexual health

    • Practice strategies for setting boundaries around body talk and social media

    Helen Quinn Pasin 

    comprehensive sexuality education 

    I'm a passionate sexuality educator and sexual violence prevention advocate.

     

    Inspired by the #MeToo movement, my career started in journalism and documentary

    filmmaking, where I covered a range of social justice issues, such as sexual assault

    on a college campus, food insecurity, and missing and murdered Indigenous women.

    Writing a story on a local comprehensive sexuality education program (Oak Park OWL) 

    catalyzed a pivotal career toward becoming a sexuality educator.

     

    From 2022-2024, I taught 4th-6th grade Our Whole Lives and led my Building Consent

    Culture workshops across Chicago Public Schools and libraries, reaching over 400 students.

     

    Since 2023, I've facilitated &Rise support groups for women survivors of sexual abuse and

    mentored teens, focusing on healthy relationships, body positivity, and open conversations about sexuality.

     

    In 2024, I was the Public Relations Coordinator for a Relationship Safety program with the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence featuring Gov. Pritzker, Sen. Durbin, former Lt. Gov. Simon, Miss Kansas, and many more.

     

    I currently serve as the Senior Special Programs Coordinator for Women, Gender & Sexuality at Bristol Community College.

     

    I aspire to spark a transformative movement where young people actively promote consent, paving the way for a safer, more respectful, and empathetic culture for everyone.
